National Bishop's Report

National Bishop Susan gave her report to the convention.
Hilights include:

  • Compassionate Justice: A report from CEO of CLWR Robert Granke, where he reported they reached their million dollar for for Haiti relief. A re-alignment of the Four Corners fair trade merchandise sales with Ten Thousand Villages.
  • Diverse Faces: Next year is our 25th Anniversary the ELCIC and our theme for convention is Covenant People: In Mission for Others. There will be focus on our relationship with First Nations peoples.
  • Effective Partnerships: National Bishop Johnson is exploring, with the Anglican Primate of Canada, the possibility of a joint-office in Ottawa, as a way of creating better "synergies" in sharing space.
  • Focused Framework: see more when the info about Structural Renewal.
  • Spiritual Renewal: There has been a movement in North America towards Christianity Lite, and we are called to Spirited Discipleship. Regular worship, prayer, scripture reading and service in the community.
  • Signs of Hope: There are many signs of hope in the ELCIC. The Human Sexuality Study recieved 500 responses, signs that folks care.
The Bishops report gave us some insight into what is going on nationally and some of the significant issues come our way.
